Westley – Long red card was harsh

Graham Westley – like most Stevenage fans – feels that Stacy Long’s red card against Crewe on Saturday was harsh. Long picked up two yellow cards, both for challenges that seemed to be borderline bookings. The Stevenage manager told the Comet:

“Most people around me felt that each of the yellow card decisions could have been seen differently, so if you add up two decisions that could have been seen differently and call them a red then the player can feel harshly done by.”

The Gaffer acknowledged Crewe’s lively second half, but felt things could have been different if we’d kept eleven men on the pitch:

“They came out of the traps after half time, a little bit of wind assisting them and managed to get the ball down our end and peg us in, certainly for five minutes after half time, but the sending off changes the game doesn`t it?’

In the old days, no way could Westley have talked about such an incident without saying something confontational and/or spouting mad David Brent-ish nonsense. But these days he simply tells it like it is. Even Dino behaves. What’s happened to our club?
