Manager Graham Westley has spoken following our two nil victory over York City at the weekend and praised the team for working hard and coming out with the result they deserved.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer credited hard work and organisation as being key contributory factors to our three points.

‘It was a tough game, they’re not a bad side. The manager won promotion out of this league last year, he knows what he’s doing and I thought they were a tough outfit. They certainly weren’t easy points to win. The boys worked very hard and got that they deserved.’

With over half of the season gone, and improvements being seen on almost a weekly basis now as we play ourselves into form, and some good results, Westley went on to credit the team for all their efforts on the training pitch during the first half of the season as he knows we are now reaping the rewards of that hard work.

‘They’re starting to play with some organisation, they’re starting to understand each other’s game, they’re starting to understand the game I ask them to play. I look at the pitch now and I see certain habits coming through.’

Elaborating on that he says we are approaching game management now with an organisation and ‘player A knows what player B is going to do’ because that organisation mindset gives rise to patterns, understanding and a predictability amongst the players which makes us more solid, and less likely to misplace passes and lose possession.

‘We haven’t seen that in Stevenage shirts for a long time and it’s good to see that back.’
