Manager Teddy Sheringham has said the victory over Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend shows we shouldn’t go into the midweek game against Portsmouth with any fear.

On the back of the two one victory with goalkeeper Jesse Joronen’s goal taking most of the headlines, the gaffer has now previewed the Portsmouth clash and speaking to the Official Site in his pre game press conference, he explained.

‘A hard earned victory, you have to fight for every point. I felt we were good on Saturday, still not great but when you look at who we were playing against and how they make you play, I thought there were a lot of positives to take out of that. The fact that we dug in with ten minutes to go and didn`t concede a second one, even though they had a decent chance to get the second goal, I felt on the whole we were deserved victors.’

Sheringham went on to say that our last two results had been pleasing especially as in both of them the players had clearly addressed things he’d been banging home in training in terms of improvements we could make that were quick, simple but would have a good effect on our play.

‘I think when you get bad results it makes you analyse yourself. Obviously everybody else is analysing us as well and we are going to do that even more deeply than everybody else because it means a lot to us. The fact that we identified a few things that we had to work on to make our team better, it is nice that you get rewards for it.’

As for Portsmouth more specifically, he went on to say.

‘We have got a good result, we need to go on and get another good result or it means nothing. You just want to go on and build bigger bricks than what you started with and that is what we will be planning to do. It is not a game that we should be scared of. We are playing OK at the moment; we can be better but if we impose ourselves on Portsmouth then there is no reason why we can`t get a result down there.’
