Stevenage have completed the signing of Dean Wells from Braintree Town today.

The experienced defender joins us for a fee of £25,000 and he has made over 100 appearances for the Conference Premier league side since joining them back in 2011.

Having had an outstanding season for them in 2013-14, Boro had to battle hard to secure his signing as other League 2 clubs were in for him also.

The 29 year old joins us on an initial 12 month deal with an option for a further year.

Speaking to the Official Site as the signing was announced, Chairman Phil Wallace said.

‘Dean is starting his Football League career late in life, but he continually impressed our Head of Recruitment and Graham Westley during last season and he has the enthusiasm, desire and determination to win that we seek in our players. He wants his chance. Graham led the cause to secure Dean and made it possible by his refusal to let the deal fall through, so he deserves great credit for that.’
