Stevenage made a start to our pre season friendly programme at The Lamex against Premier League West Ham and came out of the 90 minutes with a very credible two all draw.

Manager Graham Westley will have certainly taken the positives from the game, and although the opening few minutes were quiet with both sides taking a while to get into their stride and dust off the cobwebs, we got into our stride quicker after seven minute where Roarie Deacon hit a plumb set piece to bring out a fantastic save from their keeper, who certainly had an interesting day.

West Ham certainly had chances of their own once they also woke up, but our defence stood up to their best efforts manfully for a while.

Goals from Tom Pett and a trialist ultimately proved to be enough to give us a two goal lead, but the opposition as you’d expect did have enough about them to come back from behind with goals from Matt Jarvis and Stewart Downing.

All in all a draw is not a bad result at this stage of pre season, and the gaffer will likely be happy to see us really seem to have our fight back.
