Manager Teddy Sheringham has said that Stevenage have to dig deeper following another loss last night, this time to Mansfield Town.

Having suffered the two nil defeat, the gaffer told the Official Site that the team needed to dig deeper and be stronger together during games to pick up the points that we want.

‘We keep getting these really good chances early on in games. That`s what we set out to do, be on the front foot. We had one Saturday and another tonight, where if you capitalise things settle down and people calm down a little bit, but it wasn`t to be and it`s tough.’

Having gone four unbeaten at the beginning of the month, we end September with three without a win now, and Sheringham admitted that things certainly hadn’t gone to plan in the last few games but he was still seeing positives from matches we just needed that little bit of luck to probably get ourselves ahead, so we could calm down and have something to hold on to.

He also more than appreciates the frustrations of the fans at the moment as results aren’t what they want either.

‘At this moment it`s not good and I know it`s not good. It`s understandable the little grumblings we are hearing but I know it can be a lot worse – I`ve been at clubs where it`s been a lot worse. We have to stick together as players and staff. I have no doubt if the performances turn around they`ll be right behind us, but I`ve said since the start of the season that it works hand-in-hand. They have to see something first before they actually get excited, for us to respond to their excitement and for them to respond to that again. We have to dig deep and be strong together.’
