Stevenage’s League 2 season continued with a win against Morecambe at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday.

Recent improvement is something Stevenage had been showing of late with them edging out Morecambe in a seven-goal thriller with Boro winning four-three.

Dean Wells put Stevenage ahead but Kevin Ellison soon had Morecambe level, only for Chris Whelpdale to have Boro two-one up at half time all this after Shrimps ‘keeper Barry Roche saved Ben Kennedy’s penalty to deny Stevenage the lead!

Whelpdale himself missed another penalty with Roche again saving before he did complete his hat-trick in the second half to leave Stevenage four-one up and in control but late Paul Mullin and another from Ellison goals threatened a Morecambe comeback but Boro held on!

The other results this weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 28th November 2015
Barnet 1-3 Mansfield
Cambridge 3-1 Notts County
Carlisle 3-1 Crawley
Dag & Red 1-1 Plymouth
Exeter 1-1 Bristol Rovers
Hartlepool 0-1 Oxford Utd
Leyton Orient 1-1 Wimbledon
Newport 3-0 Luton
Northampton 2-0 Yeovil
Stevenage 4-3 Morecambe
Wycombe 2-2 Portsmouth
York 1-5 Accrington

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Mansfield and Newport?

There were some good wins with Accrington certainly deserving an honourable mention for a five-one win at York.

Mansfield beating Barnet, from the outside looking in, wouldn’t be that special as such but having not only struggled for points but also goals of late a three-one win at the Hive gets the Stags back on track.

An upturn in form has seen Newport move out of the bottom two and facing relegation with this improvement continuing with a three-nil win over Luton at Rodney Parade, which would have been (even more of) a surprise than it was a few weeks back.
