Stevenage have today confirmed that talented winger Luke Freeman has made the move to Bristol City.

The exact transfer fee has not been released by the club, they simply stated that it was a six figure sum, and following our relegation to League Two – given the interest that clubs had in the player when we were in League One – it’s not really a great surprise to see the player move on now.

Freeman made 53 appearances for us last season, and was linked in January with a move to a number of Championship clubs, and from memory we even had some unsuitable offers at the time, so hopefully despite our drop down a level, we’ve still capitalised financially on more than was offered back then to really make the deal in our best interests.

Freeman also obviously ended the season sweeping the Awards and Chairman Phil Wallace said.

‘Luke is a great example of another young lad rebuilding his career at Stevenage after the disappointment of leaving a Premier League club. He’s worked hard under Graham Westley and created a platform for himself to go much further in the game.’
